Implantology & Dental Surgery

Implants

What is an implant?

An implant is a small structure which replaces a missing tooth or a complete arch of teeth. This structure is composed of a screw from titanium, an abutment and a crown. For the crown you can choose between several materials like zircon or metal & ceramic, etc. Through the process of Osseointegration your Specialized Dental Surgeon creates with your jawbone a strong foundation for the crown. The Dental implants allow patients to bite into such foods as grilled meat & apples. Most of our Surgeons for most cases (unless you choose the opposite) place a life time implant.

Why an implant?

Improved appearance of your mouth & teeth. Dental implants feel & look like your teeth because they fuse with your bone.

Improved speech.  With Dental Implants you can speak without your teeth slipping away.

Improved oral hygiene & self esteem.  You can laugh again without fearing to show your teeth & you will feel better about yourself. You are not going to mumble or slur your words.

After the treatment you will be able to clean all parts of your mouth & between teeth.

The procedure

As soon as you arrive at Heraklion or Chania airports, one of our nurses or employees will contact you. Next morning he will pick you up from your hotel to the Doctor’s Surgery in order to fix the timing & details of your dental care.

Time needed?

According to our Specialized Dental Surgeons, 80% of their patients stay 8 days and need 3 visits to the Dental Surgeon. Our Dental Surgeons, each one & each year, place more than 200 implants to Foreign & Greek patients.  When we will do your file you will send us an X-ray of your entire denture and our Surgeons will diagnose the exact treatment, time, costs & every other information you must know and that he needs from you before coming.

Anesthesia

Local with absolutely no need for hospitalization. After each visit you are immediately released.

Bridges

What is a Bridge?

When we have lost 1 (or more) tooth (teeth), the Bridge is used to replace the missing tooth (teeth). The Bridge is supported by the natural teeth from either side of the gap. It is a fixed treatment where a crown is created on each supporting tooth and a false tooth fills the gap.

Why a Dental Bridge?

When one has lost his tooth (teeth) and has a gap between his teeth because of

  • Decay
  • After an accident
  • In order to have all his capacity of speaking and chewing
  • When for any reason, you have a gap between your teeth which means increasing tooth decay & gum disease
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Prevent remaining teeth from getting out of position
  • Exact distribution of the forces in your bite by replacing missing teeth

Time needed by the Dentist & Procedure?

In general 2 visits in a 4 days’ time in order to:

  • prepare the teeth on either side of the gap for the false tooth
  • make an impression which will serve as a mould from which the Dental Laboratory will make the Bridge, the false tooth and the Crowns
  • for a couple of days you will wear a temporary Bridge till the 2nd visit, during which your permanent bridge will be fitted & checked & adjusted for any bite differences
  • the new Bridge will then be cemented to your teeth

Types of Dental Bridges

  • Traditional Bridges which are made of either Porcelain fused to metal or ceramics
  • Cantilever bridges which are used when there are teeth only on one side of the gap
  • Resin bonded bridge which is made of plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal framework. Metal wings on each side of the Bridge are bonded to your existing teeth.

Types of Dental Crowns.

For children: crowns of stainless steel.

For adults:

  • Porcelain fused to metal with gold or chrome or palladium basis. Those kinds of materials allow the teeth to resist to big pressures when chewing tough food and have a longer life time. Used for posterior teeth.
  • Ceramic metallic. Those crowns are used for anterior teeth.
  • Zirconium crowns (Z.C.). A very strong kind of crown which can be used anywhere in the mouth and can withstand any kind of pressure on the tooth.  They look like natural teeth. Due to all those positive characteristics, Z.C. is very used in Dental Surgery.

The Treatment.

You will need two visits to your Dentist Surgeon. During your 1rst visit your Dentist will prepare your tooth by removing decay, shaping the tooth, and take a molded trace of the prepared tooth in order to send it to the Dental Laboratory.

During the 2nd visit he shall place the crown on the already prepared tooth.

Veneers

What are Veneers?

Veneers are very thin pieces of specially shaped porcelain or plastic which are glued over the front of your teeth with no anesthesia.

Veneers, porcelain or dental bonding, are treatments belonging to that part of Dental care called cosmetic dentistry. Porcelain veneers can be used not only to correct shape and color problems of your teeth but also aim at a great smile makeover.

Veneers are used when:

-you have discoloration of the Teeth. This effect is caused by one of the following: ageing, staining, chemical damage, coffee,  tea, cola drinks, cigarettes or genetics.

-you have irregular or imperfect teeth.

Veneers solve such irregularities and create a durable and pleasant smile.

Veneers are placed over the front teeth to change their color or shape.

Procedure

Veneers are created from an impression taken in the dentist office. Your customed veneer is then glued directly on your teeth. They will last from 12 to 16 years.

During your first visit to your dentist office, he will reduce teeth by an average of 0,5mm and then take a mold, from which the veneers are modeled after. Temporary veneers will be placed on your teeth till the permanent are ready.

Types of Tooth Veneer Procedure.

Your Dentist after discussing with you, will advice you for the type of veneer which best fits to your teeth.

There are 2 types of Tooth Veneer.

  • Composite Veneers which are performed in one visit to your dentist.
  • Porcelain veneers are a very thin porcelain material. They require 2 visits at your Dentist’s office because they require, after the impression, a laboratory to prepare the final tooth restoration piece.
  • Another variety of the porcelain veneer is the new type called: Lumineer Porcelain Veneer procedure. They are as thin as lenses of 2mm and in most cases no tooth reduction is needed.

Cost of Dental Veneers on Crete?

50 to 60% less than in UK or USA or Scandinavia with surgeons at least as good as in your country.

Tooth extraction & other genaral dental care procedures

Our Dental Surgeons operate all the range of treatments concerning your teeth, your oral health and your needs in Stomatology. Among them that of the extraction of teeth. The most ancient dentist’s procedure.

Tooth extraction. What is it?

The removal of a broken or decayed tooth from the socket in the bone, when too much damage prevents repair, the tooth must be removed. But also if:

-there is (are) extra tooth (teeth) which block other teeth from coming in.

-baby teeth don’t fall out in time to allow the permanent teeth to come in.

-infected teeth appear after a cancer treatment

-molars cause pains or are decayed or infected. Often those teeth don’t come in and can irritate the gum.

Treatment.

First of all, your Dental Surgeon will take an X-ray or a panoramic X-ray in order to examine the teeth structure and plan the best method of extracting the tooth (or teeth). Of course, like in all the other Dental Surgeon’s acts which we have described, a complete medical file will be composed by your Doctor from a questionnaire that we shall send to you. You must be in good physical condition to undertake a tooth extraction. No coughs, stuffy nose or cold at least one week before the surgery.

There are 2 types of extractions done by our Dental Surgeons:

*the simple extractions which are performed on teeth that the dental Surgeon sees in the mouth.

*the surgical extraction which occurs when a tooth is broken at the gum line or has not come into the mouth yet.

Anesthesia.

Local anesthesia is used in 99% of patients for both extractions. General anesthesia is used for specific patient condition.

Time needed for tooth extraction.

From 20 minutes for simple extractions to 2 hours for complex extractions.

You will be released immediately after the surgery. Like in all other dental treatments our personnel will pick you up from your hotel and will bring you back to it. If you stay at the cities of Chania or Heraklion the drives are at our expenses.

Follow up.

Your dental surgeon will give you all the needed information on what to do and what to expect. You will have some mild discomfort for a small while. After a couple of days the pain will totally disappear and you will be able to eatlike before.
